LAIR OF APHI ŠET

Hook: Aphi Šet, a demon snake of Thûls A... Her cult was active long ago, during the First Age of Heroes. You have heard rumours that snake priests have been seen in the land of Shen-Ra... The vulture men of their eponymous goddess have tasked you with seeking out the old lair of Aphi Šet, to rescue the son of their leader from the snake demon said to dwell there... The vulture men of Shen-Ra point out the way, but, even that is not a certain path, and the realm of the snake men is fraught with dangers from an older, more dangerous era... The priests have tasked

Details: It is true that priests of Thûls A, caretakers of Aphi Šet, one of the demon snakes of Thûls A, have continued to be active. They dutifully feed the serpent, even though their god has left Aelŵydir, and them, to fend for themselves. They have remained in constant opposition to the white vulture men of Shen-Ra, the healer. The high priest asks only for the rescue of his son, but, if they can manage to slay Aphi Šet, or kill as many snake men as possible, all the better... Aphi Šet's chamber consists of a huge pit below a walkway that surrounds it. A symbol-ridden, heavily carved summoning pool draws the snake from the realm of chaos. The snake priests are preparing to sacrifice the high priest's son on the full moon, when The Beast's moon madness has the world in its grip. The pit is where sacrifices are thrown for Aphi Šet to consume. When she has eaten, she sleeps there until she passes the bones of whomever she ate. The pit is full of both whole and pulverised bones. She is 50' long, and covered in leathery, scaly skin, like any other snake... Aphi Šet can also be starved. It takes a long time for her to shrink, but, the more she eats, the bigger she gets. And more power she eats, the more powerful and bigger she becomes. When she is starved to her smallest size, she is about 6' long. A cobra, she has a black hide and hood the colour of night, spits venomous acid that poisons and burns. The pools in the lair are comprised of the clear, viscous acid as well. In The Hall of the Snake, in Hekaphyxian style are carved rites and worship of Aphi Šet.
