THE SLEEPING KNIGHT INN & VILLAGE




DETAILS - The proprietor and leader of the inn’s village of craftsmen, livestock owners, and traders, Brûn, a woman from Eräland, now an old woman of 70, is still active at the inn. Her children run it in her stead. Her son, Owyn (35), has married a woman, Orona (27), hailing from Calibor, a merchant’s daughter. The merchant supplies goods to the provisioner in town on his way through to other lands. Since the area is so remote, this proves a great asset for those at the inn, as they receive special prices on certain goods and foodstuffs, and sometimes extra requests can be made for rare acquisitions, if payment is made, beforehand. All the locals meet in yearly and monthly ‘moots’ on the central hill to discuss business and settle disputes.

BUILDINGS - Buildings in the village are made of limestone and sandstone with wattle and daub upper floors - except for the shrine, which is completely stone, in the Lumenorian style. Usually, there are two stories, plus an undercroft for storage, but, some buildings have three floors. With rare exceptions, only the foundations and ground floors are stone. Roofs are green oak- or pine-shingled or straw thatching. Inside, most buildings where food is served are strewn with rushes and fragrant herbs and replaced regularly. Windows are horn-paned. The village buildings were built using local stone and were not originally part of the monastery. The bronze statue of The Lady of Light was removed from the monastery’s temple and taken to the new shrine.


VILLAGE GUARD - The village guard consists of 10 mercenaries. They are mostly-novice-level warriors operating out of the bell tower at tae monastery. They are led by the mercenary leader of their company, the Erämi man, Tüonen Eagle-Eye, a one-eyed veteran who decided it was time for quiet and settled living, though The Wilderness still provides him with challenge. They patrol The Road to the eaves of The Misty Forest north and south twice a day, and walk the streets of the village at regular one hour intervals, even at night, though they make their nightly rounds every 2 hours. There are always 4 men on the walls with bows and spears, and 1 guarding the entry.


FENCES - Fences are 4’-5’ tall wattle made from woven willow saplings staked to the ground with gates made of the same material. They can be tied shut with rope or a stake through a rope loop.

  Hook: The four rune stones, when placed into the bases of the minotaur caryatids located int he tomb chamber, trigger a release somewhere nearby... A grinding, moaning scrape of stone-on-stone fills the room. Turning, you see the entirety of Rŵnos's sarcophagus, as well as the stepped dais it rests upon, moving slowly backward. After it retreats about ten feet, a hole in the granite flagstones is revealed. A stone stair spirals down into the darkness. Stale air drifts upward as you peer into the opening... No sound emanates from it. It is eerily silent... Details: The ecology, here, is unique. There are forces opposed to and allied with one another within, struggling for a place and dominance in the maze. THE LANDS OF KELTIKA SETTING PRIMER (DRAFT)

SPECIAL NOTE  - This is the setting primer and map for the world I designed to accompany Heroes of Yore: Advanced (Basic) Rules set I'm kickstarting. I decided to share it, in-process, when it was done enough to show real progress, in case I die or I lose something. I am still very much in danger, from many angles, since I've been abandoned in this city with no friends or family. I want people to 1. Know who I am and what I have done (that I lived and accomplished this, along with other things I love doing); 2. In an attempt to save myself, I think it's a good way to show my potential, skill set as an ad, designer, writer, and world-builder (I designed and wrote this (including the map) in 10 hours - most of the writing in 3-4, tops), in the event someone decides to help me; 3. MAZE OF WAVES

Hook: Wandering down the granite stairs to the water maze is much the same experience you had descending the steps that led to the air maze. There is a light ahead that seems but a pinprick at this distance. It's warm, steady, like a pole star, only below you instead of above. The sound of rushing water greets your senses, as well. Using the light as your guide, like a moth to a flame, you descend until you reach the light, the rushing water sound becoming a thunderous sound that fills your ears and blocks out most other noises the closer you get. You approach the light through a portal flanked by the minotaur statues you have grown accustomed to seeing. Like the other maze entrances, it leads into a natural granite cavern that opens wide. Before you stretches a vast chamber filled with a tumultuous sea, and a sky hanging over it that is much like that from the mountain chamber, only less cloudy, at present.
