QUARRY & CAVES
Hook: It's been years since the threat of Gŵron, the Black, possessed by the spirit of the Witch Lord, Azoraxis the Living Shadow, attempted to conquer the Misty Bay area. The region is quiet, now, but, there are murmurs of something stirring in The Dark Forest. The goblins there are unusually restless, and attacks on The Road and livestock and wildlife have begun to increase... It could be some tröll leader or bandit lord behind them urging them on, or, it could be more...
Details: The limestone and sandstone quarry and caves associated with them were originally used by the builders of Castle Black 100 years ago. After the castle fell and the land turned sour with the presence of undead and monsters, a tribe of trölls, along with a small number of imps and troglodytes, moved into the quarry. They spent 30 years adding on to the caves, creating their own complex within the at first shallow caves. When the ghûl cult moved into the area ten years after the goblins, the two began working together. The tröll population is small, but, large enough to be considered a threat. They cold easily overwhelm the inhabitants of The Sleeping Knight Inn, if they so desired, but, the threat of sunlight keeps them home, sending out only small patrol parties at night.
A large lizard has also taken up residence in the upper cave, 'D'. It eats goblins and other wildlife, if it's available. The goblins feed it and the frogs that live in the lower caves 'A' and 'B' prisoners and slaves. The frogs and lizard act as natural guards, especially since trölls are dormant during the day time. The frogs, evil, toothy monsters the size of large dogs, even as tadpoles,, are active in the evening and at night, ambushing unsuspecting animals and humanoids. They announce their presence as the light fails, 'peeping' at regular intervals.
Bazmoág, the Ruin, the (very) large tröll, runs the tribe of goblins through tyranny and iron claws... sometimes even feeding those who disappoint him to the frogs, lizard, or even the giant water beetle living in the large watery cave.
