TEMPLE OF THE MIDGE KING

Hook: Recently, the marshes in the heathlands near the clanlands has become infested with swarms of biting insects, midges and flies. They have become relentless and ruthless pests for the denizens near and on the moors. The small horses (those that lived) residing there have fled to escape the invasion. Most of the moorland steads' inhabitants have sought sanctuary in the chieftain's town or with kin. The chieftain has issued a hefty reward for anyone who might be able to investigate and bring this trouble to a close.

Description: A petty god worshipped by zealous cultists has taken up residence in the moors in the clanlands. The god is known simple as The Midge King. He has overseen the construction of a temple dedicated to his worship. He venerates his partner, as well. Limestone statues of both of them decorate the temple complex. Human cultists serve as labour, ritual attenders, worshippers, and guards. Slaves and prisoners are routinely fed to the hungry Midge King's partner who resides in a pool of water 60 feet below the complex. He flies himself down to her during mating season, and the resulting larger-than-normal midges then descend on the surrounding countryside to cause havoc and feed. The Midge King desires to spread his influence over the clanlands, using the inhabitants as slave labour and sacrifices to his 'beautiful' bride... The main entry is a flat facade (no double doors, but, I included them, incase GMs wished to use them, instead) carved with midges and the pair of gods. Only the priests who bear special clay medallions may pass the doors, as if they didn't exist. The entire complex is carved from limestone and reinforced with carved limestone pillars, limestone slabs, and flagstones.
