GLADE OF THE WYRM-CURSED BLADE

Hook:
As your party wanders through the wilderness, you realize that it's suddenly deathly quiet... Not even the squirrels or small birds or any other wild creature stirs around you... Looking up from your trudge through thick underbrush, you notice a cascade of golden light as the trees break to reveal what is likely a clearing...

Description: The glade is home to the remains of a decades-old battle between a warrior and an ancient black dragon. The warrior was once the bearer of a magic sword possessed of the powers of Law, which aided him in his contest with the black wyrm... When the dragon was slain, she was so desperate to live, her will and spirit were bonded to the blade. The warrior succumbed to his wounds, shortly after. Now, the blade, a beautifully-crafted weapon carved with the likenesses of gold dragons in knot work and some precious yellow and red gems (citrines and garnets). The sword, itself, is a blend of both chaotic and lawful energies that constantly war with one another. Its possessor won't ever want to part with it, once they draw the blade from its well-made, cutrine- and garnet-adorned scabbard. At times, the blade helps in times of trouble, becoming a weapon that deals extra damage to creatures of chaos, and improves interactions with lawful beings. At other times, it switches temperament, and offers those same benefits against creatures of law... The bearer becomes the temperament identity of the sword, and behaves accordingly, which causes damage to their mind and spirit. Every time the sword switches temperaments, the bearer's player must check against their will, or be driven insane, or even die, because of the conflicting energies warring within the weapon. If the bearer decides to try and part with the weapon, they must perform a quest or find a wizard or priest of sufficient power, or whatever the GM can dream up as a solution to this problem. Before the characters can acquire the weapon, however, the restless spirit of the warrior rises from his slumped position against a rock where he died, and attacks... The sword radiates whatever magic/temperament it currently possesses, but, never both, at the same time.
